"I COULDN'T KEEP JOBS, I WAS SCARED TO LEAVE MY HOUSE AND FOR MY LIFE" : A SEAT AT THE TABLE WITH MUNROE BERGDORF
Welcome back Ladies & Gentlemen!
I hope you are all well! Monday 22nd marked 11 days since the launch of 'The Trusted Black Girl', and critics of the book have realised an important intersection we didn't cover in the book... LGBTQ Black Women. With this in mind, when I was made aware of the chance to meet Munroe Bergdorf by the Black Girls Book Club, I had to make every endeavour to go!
Munroe Bergfdorf is a British model who came to public attention in August 2017 when she was employed as the first transgender model to front a L'Oréal campaign in the UK. On 1 September, L'Oréal sacked Bergdorf due to public controversy . Since then she has spent much of her time as an activist for LGBTQ and Black Women.
I was greeted with amazing hospitality by the Founders of the "Black Girls Book Club",at the prestigious venue Kitty Hawk restaurant.
Shortly after introductions, Prosecco, and fine dining; I asked Munroe about her experiences in the corporate world. I was shocked and appalled by the extent of abuse Munroe had been prone too and received. She spoke of the daily fear she felt and the ostracisation she struggled with, causing her to leave several jobs. Munroe explained, " I struggled to leave my house in fear of my life and abuse because people just didn't understand me."It occurred very quickly to me that the experience of a black women in the LGBTQ community is a completely different experience to that of heterosexual black women, and it is very important to expose light onto it, as it is an intersectionality that many people fail to realise exists.
National LGBT Survey: Summary report
These statistics are concerning and make Munroe's mission so important. Evidently there is more to do with regards to improving inclusion for the LGBTQ Community, and would love you all to comment below ways in which you think that can be done!
Until next time,
Welcome back Renaissance family!
I hope you've all been well. As you can guess from the title of this blog, I'm back with a review of the 'Vitamin Tree Mask from the Korean Skincare brand 'I'm from', sold on WishTrend. As a WishTrend affliate, I received this product a few days ago, and took the time to use it on a daily basis to give you all a more comprehensive view of my thoughts.
Firstly I would like to applaud the packaging. The mask comes in a 110g size glass tub with a strong plastic cover to seal. It is also accompanied by a small plastic applicator, so you won't need to use your hands to apply the formula onto your skin. This is useful as the mask has a thick formula , so the applicator allows for even distribution around the face.
How effective did you find the product to be?
If I'm to be perfectly honestly I have never suffered from major problematic skin conditions, so I will not lie and tell you this product cured the acne I've never had, in a week. However, as I applied the mask to my face within two minutes I felt a pleasant tingling sensation to my face indicating to me that the product was getting to work. Each time I would use the mask I would leave it on my face for 20 minutes. Afterwards, I would use the warmest water my skin could cope with, alongside a clean flannel, and gently wipe the formula off my face. My skin was left feeling vibrant, fresh and smooth to the touch which I loved. The above picture is my skin directly after using the face mask and applying the Shemoóre Butter Skin Soufflé to moisturise. The only thing I would have to say is a con about this product is the smell isn't as sweet as other face masks I have used in past. It has an organic smell which isn't awful but I do understand some consumers are particular about smells, so I thought it is worth addressing this.
Is it safe for everyone to use?
This mask is safe for the majority as it is:
+ Artificial coloring-free
+ Artificial fragrance-free
Should you be unsure, do consult your local GP or dermatologist.
How much does the mask retail for?
This mask retails for $26.95, which equates to £20.49. It is totally worth the price as a little bit goes a long way and the best thing about it is you can get money off using this link/my code.
I hope you enjoyed this review! For any questions/queries do comment below and I'd be very happy to answer.
