Welcome back Ladies & Gentlemen!
First blog of 2019 and I really hope this year will be your year. For many of us in university, January is a pivotal month and how we work hence forth often determines our final result. Although talk about university is often a 'sticky one', I thought it was be nice to suggest a few great things to consider doing before graduating. I am no expert but I just like to use my brain and project information that makes sense, so here goes.
1) Attempt to clear your personal debt. The most proactive candidates will try and save before graduating but at the very least attempt to clear your personal debt for example overdrafts, short term cash loans or anything you have taken on finance. For a lot of new graduates, there is a struggle to find employment and should you find yourself in that trap...you will suffer having no income, no student finance and debt.
2) Travel. If you can afford to travel do so. You have more free time than you will ever have in the world of work and can do so during peak time. It would be nice for you to see what the world has to offer, if you can.
3) If you are entrepreneurial and need money for a start up. Develop a clean business plan and attempt to secure a grant or bursary to help you. Besides if you do not manage to get money, you may be exposed to workshops or people who will be willing to help you perfect your skill.
4) If you have applied for graduate schemes, revisit the details of your application and assess your compatibility with the role and company. If you find that your profile isn't the perfect match but it's your dream role..set up a LinkedIn and contact hiring managers. Do not pester them. However, if your skill set isn't the most competitive, you never know where building relationships may land you . Thousands of applicants are at stake, with similar profiles so think of it this way: people find it hard to let those they like down, right?
There are several great things you can do before graduating...so feel free to share!
Until next time,
