Welcome back Ladies & Gentlemen!
With some of my readership being in the process of looking for, applying and receiving offers for graduate schemes I wanted to intervene with some key advice as you go through this process. If I am to be perfectly honest, when I made the decision to come to university I knew I wanted ' a well paid' job, which will enable me to buy my own property in the future. However, the mistake I made was failing to calculate effectively what a well job meant to me in relation to my circumstances.
Last year, I decide to have a very serious confrontation with my accounts, my goals to decide how we were going to get onto the property ladder. I decide to calculate a 3 year plan and realised what 'a well paid' job meant to me, and it had to be one that enabled me to save.
The above figures are becoming the reality, our generation will have to face and plan towards. If you want to be moving away from home within three years, close the tab on the ASOS basket, get a brick phone and ignore the 20 % off Missguided.
Above is a three year plan I set up for myself using the 'Numbers App', but feel free to calculate yours in anyway you please. To be able to save this amount for a home deposit, it made me realise what type of graduate jobs I should be aiming for and prompted me to be the most well rounded I could be for these roles. Life is all about planning. Know where you come from, where you stand and where you are going.
